Whelans Group are one of the three construction companies working on Stage 3 of the Princes Highway East Upgrade between Traralgon and Sale. The $253 million upgrade involves 43km of duplicated highway and 11 sections of upgraded highway. Whelans Group is responsible for the works to the east of Velore Road in Kilmany and to the east of Templetons Road. The works involves constructing a four-lane dual carriageway with a central median, as well as the installation of safety barriers and tactile edge lines, in order to provide increased road capacity and faster and safer travel times between Traralgon and Sale.
FSC was engaged by Whelans Group to provide environmental and sustainability advice on their project. This included assisting with the delivery of the Recycled First Plan, an initiative started in February 2020 to help the Victorian Government increase the use of recycled materials in major infrastructure projects, as well as increase demand for recycled products and promote innovation in the industry. FSC led Whelans through the data tracking process and preparation for the submission of the As-built Recycled First Plan for review by MRPV (Major Roads Projects Victoria) and ISC (Infrastructure Sustainability Council).
