In a world where the need for diversity and inclusion is increasingly recognised, FSC is proud to have backed a new certified social enterprise, Switch 2 Infrastructure, launched in April 2024.

Switch aims to break down barriers and create opportunities for mid-career women from other sectors, seeking to transition into the infrastructure industry. Switch is more than just a career program; it is a movement that seeks to bridge the gender gap and empower women with the skills, experience, and confidence needed to succeed in a traditionally male-dominated sector.

The Vision Behind Switch

Switch was born from the desire to address significant challenges in the infrastructure workforce: resource shortages and lack of gender diversity. Despite decades of progress in many sectors, infrastructure remains heavily skewed towards men, particularly in technical and leadership roles. Recognising that women are often underrepresented and undervalued in this field, Switch seeks to change this dynamic by offering a comprehensive career transition program designed for mid-career women.

What Sets Switch Apart?

At the heart of Switch is its cadetship program – a paid, mid-career transition pathway for women to enter the infrastructure industry. This unique program provides participants with hands-on experience, mentorship, and training, helping them build the skills necessary to succeed in roles across contract administration, procurement and commercial roles, among others.

Empowering Women, Strengthening the Industry

Switch is not just about helping women – it’s about transforming the infrastructure industry for the better. Studies have shown that diverse teams are more innovative, productive, and better at problem-solving. By bringing more women into the sector, Switch aims to enhance the creativity and competitiveness of the industry as a whole.

Moreover, Switch is committed to addressing some of the common barriers that women face in making a career transition, such as a lack of industry knowledge, access to networks, and confidence in applying for new roles. Through on-the-job training, mentorship, and a supportive community, Switch helps women overcome these challenges and embark on a new career with the skills and support they need to succeed.

Join the Movement

As Switch continues to grow, it invites more women, companies, and industry leaders to join its mission. Whether you're a woman looking to transition into a new career or a company eager to foster diversity and innovation, Switch offers a pathway to success.
