When Maverick wanted to relocate from Melbourne to Sydney in early 2022, he was uncertain about how his workplace would react. He had been with FSC for six months and was thoroughly enjoying his role there. He however wanted to move to Sydney with his girlfriend to be closer to family. Since there wasn’t an FSC office in Sydney, he understood that this choice might mean leaving a job he valued. What he hadn’t anticipated was the enthusiasm from his managers for this move. “It couldn’t have gone any better!” Maverick recalls. “They saw it as an opportunity to establish a new office in Sydney, to expand and explore work in a different city.” Two years later, the FSC Sydney office has 6 full-time employees with plans for further expansion on the horizon.
When asked how he and the Sydney team stay connected to the Melbourne office, Maverick explains, “There are a few different ways. We travel down twice a year to Melbourne for all-of-company team days and have frequent visits from our Melbourne colleagues for client meetings. Besides that, we’ve started hosting Sydney-specific events. We feel empowered to foster our own culture here, one that is an extension of the FSC Melbourne culture.” Reflecting on the move he made two years ago, Maverick shares, “The transition was so seamless, and the management was incredibly supportive, which reaffirmed that FSC was the right place for me with its people-first culture.” He adds, “Personally, it’s been fantastic too – my girlfriend is now my fiancée, and we’re getting married later this year!” FSC has also opened offices in Hobart and Brisbane, both initiated by the relocation of its Melbourne employees. While the Hobart office currently operates with a single employee, the Queensland team has expanded to seven employees.
While some companies are reluctant to allow more flexible options for employees, FSC fully embraces flexible working in all its forms. As a people-first business, it continues to redefine what it means to be a truly adaptable workplace.
